Thirty years ago, this past summer, I came to Alaska from Arizona; an extreme difference in climate but extremely similar in beauty. Through photography I try to capture the experience and memory of many fantastic travels. Adventure and travel, both near and far, are always a part of my plans. I enjoy all aspects of the outdoors - camping, fishing, and gardening. Reading, writing and the needle arts are some of my favorite past time activities. During the long, winter months I especially like to spend time quilting.
Working with youth has been my focus in life. I began teaching secondary school – English, in Juneau, Alaska. I taught elementary school for eleven years on the Koyukuk, Kuskokwim and Yukon Rivers. In Fairbanks, I was a school counselor in the elementary and middle schools for fourteen years. This is my second year as an Assistant Principal for the Galena City School District, at Galena Interior Learning Academy.
Although new to GILA as an Assistant Principal, I am not new to Galena. I meet my husband, Gary, in Galena in 1976. We have two boys who attended school in Galena beginning in preschool through fourth grade. As time would have it, both our boys are grown. Our oldest son lives on the Lower Yukon while our youngest lives in Arizona.
I fully appreciate the opportunity to spend my days talking and working with young adults. They are an inspiration and a challenge. Their laugh is contagious, their thoughts insightful, their questions inquisitive and they offer a unique glimpse at life.
