Paul Apfelbeck – Language Arts/Journalism:
Galena is a great place to live. My wife Isabella, my son JoJo
and I have been here for five years. Isabella works in the district’s
business office. JoJo is seven years old and is a first grader in
Claudette Green’s classroom. I teach language arts, journalism
and social studies at Galena Interior Learning Academy (GILA), as
well as publishing the yearbook and helping students create the
school newspaper, The Gila Monster.
I’ve also taught in Tuluksak, a Yup’ik village along
the Kuskokwim River, and in Covelo, California, on the Round Valley
Indian Reservation.
Outside the classroom I love the outdoors. My garden is my passion.
My wife and I love to travel. You can visit my website at http://apfelbeck.com.
I regularly post photos of my family and my gardens; the website
also features teaching pages where lesson plans, homework, assignments
and tests are posted for students and the families of students.
