Cosmetology classes at GILA

Cosmetology courses are taught by Gar Wong, a hairstylist and instructor licensed by the state of Alaska. He has been a hairstylist since 1973 and has owned five salons throughout the western United States. Mr. Wong has been with GILA since 2002.

Students in the cosmetology program graduate with a license to practice cosmetology in the state of Alaska. The student has to complete 1,650 hours of education in the program to obtain the license. In addition, students can certify themselves in a fields of skin care, manicure, barbering, and hairstyling.

Students come to learn all about the varied lessons on hair care: everything from shampooing, cutting, coloring, and conditioning damaged hair. Students also learn about nail care and beautification, including manicures and pedicures.

This is the only nationally acreditted school of cosmetology in the state of Alaska.
