Woodworking and carpentry

The woodworking, carpentry, and drafting classes are taught by David Wightman. Raised in Dillingham, Alaska, he has worked in Galena classrooms for 13 years. Students are offered classes in carpentry, woodworking, and AutoCAD (computer-aided design software used for drafting, modeling, and architectural drawing).

Students in Mr. Wightman's classes work on many projects, culminating in the construction of a shed which is sold to the community for fund raising. This year, the class also rebuilt the bathroom facilities at the Galena ballfields following wind storms this winter.

Students can earn a certificate from the National Center for Construction Education and Research in Mr. Wightman's classes.
