Conference champions in 2009!

The Galena Hawks have a long history of excellence in basketball. Students from the boarding school and students living in the community work together to form a tightly-knit team which is well-known throughout the state for their skills and athleticism.

The Galena Hawks boys team were the Alaska state champions in Division 2A in 2008, with a 23-3 season. This year, the Galena Hawks girls were Aurora Conference regional champions and went to state, taking the awards for sportsmanship.

Both the girls and boys teams were conference champions in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Girls coach Beth Buchanan was honored as this year’s Region 2A Coach of the Year.
