Starting out the year fleet-footed

The Galena Hawks cross-country team opens the sports year. The team has a fun run at the Galena Agricultural Fair in late August. In September, the team hosts an exhibition meet at home, attracting runners from around the town as they race and run with the high school students. They then go to divisional and regional meets against other teams on the road system.

During the Region 2 championships last fall, Alex Beans took seventh place in the state with a time of  18:51.27 in the 5,000 meter race; for the girls, Cecily Settle took sixth in the women’s varsity division with a time of 22:52.48 in the 5,000 meter race.
