GILA is a statewide boarding school for students in grades 9 to 12 who are seeking a quality education that prepares them for life after high school.  It is Alaska’s longest operating residential secondary vocational school.  GILA is accredited by the “Northwest Association of Accredited Schools" and because it is a public school, tuition, room & board are free.

The unique combination of academics and vocational offerings and highly qualified staff gives GILA students the advantage.  Success can be measured in many ways but it's worth noting that all 2008 Seniors passed all sections of the Alaska High School Graduation Qualifying Examination and either went on to college or directly into the workplace. That class was 95% Alaska Native or American Indian and exceeded the graduation rate for this group in most other rural and urban schools in Alaska.
