What sports are available in Galena schools?

 

Galena schools offer cross-country running, girls volleyball, girls and boys basketball, cross-country skiing, and girls and boys wrestling.

 

What clubs and extracurricular activities are available in Galena schools?

 

Galena schools offer student government, Native Youth Olympics, music and drama programs, Natural Helpers, an arts festival, the Headbanger’s Ball, and intermural sports. There are regular events that take place in the community, such as the Yukon Jamboree and the Spring Carnival.

 

Is there a fee in order to take part in Galena high school sports?

 

There is a fee which varies from sport to sport. Basketball players are asked to pay a $100 activities fee; wrestlers pay a $60 activities fee. Prospective players should ask the coaches of that sport about the activity fee.

 

Can I practice without a physical?

 

No. A physical exam taken within the previous 12 months is required for participation in all Galena sports.

 

If I don’t get to travel, do I get my activities fee back?

 

The activities fee pays for coaching, equipment, and other necessary things for the sport, including travel. It is not refundable.

 

What kind of grade should an athlete maintain?

 

Students are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average with no “D” or “F” grades during the quarter preceding participation in the sport. In addition, students are also required to maintain weekly eligibility based on academic performance and classroom behavior.
