My name is Elizabeth Strassburg, and I was raised here in Galena, Alaska. I moved from here when I was 14 to attend Mount Edgecumbe HIgh School and have been moving around ever since. After graduating from the Galena City High School, I applied and was accepted to the University of Oregon. While I intended to pursue a degree in marine biology there, I actually changed to elementary education. After three and a half years I recieved a BS in Educational Studies. I attended another semester there, of Grad school, in the spring of 2005, but once I came home for the summer I couldn't go back- I missed home and the village too much. Last school year, 2005/06, I was a teacher's aide in a K-3 class in Allakaket, Alaska. With that experience I found out that I am not suited to teach the younger grades anymore, that I would like to switch to the 4/5th grades. I am slowly working on my graduate degree and teaching license, through the University of South East Alaska, through their distance program. I plan on getting the degree and licensure nessasary to teach in rural Alaska, hopefully returning to Allakaket. |
