Hello to all my peeps, my name is Jeffrey C. Huntington. I am a new addition to the G.I.L.A staff residence hall entourage as the Cultural Community Activities Coordinator. I am an Athabaskan Indian who was born in Tanana, Alaska but raised and lived here in Galena, Alaska until my early 20’s. I do not have immaculate educational background outside of graduating from (then) Galena City High School which is now Sidney Huntington High School, my Gramps, but I do have a lot of well learned lessons in my life that I feel will help benefit young adults today, especially the native youth of Alaska.
I have a lot of hobbies ranging from basketball, hunting, snow machining, and pretty much any type of outdoor sport, but my most recent obsession has been cage fighting. It has always been an interest of mine for as long as the sport of M.M.A. (mixed martial arts) has been around. I just recently started competing in it for fun and to win a little cash, but mainly for the inner victory I feel inside myself when I beat another person face to face in an all out battle; it’s hard to explain but I can tell you there is no other feeling like it.
I’ve always enjoyed playing, working with kids and young adults as of recently, so this job was nothing new to me other than the paperwork. There is no better feeling I get then when I am teaching or explaining something important to a youngster and they are actually paying attention and listening to what I have to say. It blows me away and makes me feel good inside, something I would like to continue and excel at.
I once heard somebody say, I woke up this morning and realized that yesterday I helped change somebody’s life for the better…” This is a good enough statement in itself to help me understand why I am among such educated and great minds trying to accomplish the same mission; to help impressionable young minds soar. So, thanks all for lending your time to help understand a little more about me and what the rest of the G.I.L.A staff has to offer. Latz cuz’ and peace be da’ journey….
